Welcome Second Graders

This year students will develop an understanding of the importance of water in our daily lives and in the lives of the plants and animals that are our neighbors.   Water is a resource that we can take for granted -- but it is a miraculous and precious fluid without which life would not exist.

Second graders will also study in depth a large animal and compare and contrast it with other organisms they know (like the family dog).  They will become familiar with the varied habitats in which they are found and the adaptations that enhance their survival.  And, they will appreciate the role of water in the lives of their special animal.

Students will study weather, ecology, changes in the earth’s surface, clues from fossils, endangered and extinct species, matter, energy, light, and sound.
